One of the most beloved names in American artisan jewelry, this substantial dogwood brooch by Stuart Nye is a genuine piece of American craft history.
This early 1940s example is particularly striking in its scale and composition. Rather than the single blossom seen on smaller Nye pins, this piece presents a full dogwood sprig: a four-petaled blossom with a raised ball-cluster center, flanked by two large, pointed leaves with engraved vein detail, all rendered in one sweeping horizontal form nearly 3.25 inches wide. The petals are gently domed and hand-engraved with characteristic line detail. The back is stamped with the NYE shamrock maker's mark and "STERLING", confirming authenticity. A classic rollover pin closure completes the piece. The light natural patina is entirely consistent with 80+ years of age and adds to the character — this brooch has clearly been well cared for and well loved.
Early 1940s pieces like this one, predating the brand's wider commercial expansion, are especially sought after.
