From one of the most beloved names in vintage Hawaiian fashion, this stunning sundress by Malia of Honolulu is a genuine collector's piece.
Set against a vibrant teal ground, the dress is scattered with oversized purple, lavender, and white chrysanthemum blooms in that lush, painterly style that made Malia famous. A scalloped, ruffled sweetheart neckline, thin self-fabric spaghetti straps, elasticized waist, and self-tie sash belt combine for a silhouette that is effortlessly feminine and endlessly flattering.
The interior is just as thoughtfully constructed as the outside: built-in molded bra cups with an adjustable hook-and-eye band offer real support, a hallmark of quality resort dressing from this era. The full, slightly A-line skirt hits at a lovely midi length, swishy and voluminous in that way that only good cotton achieves.

Era: Late 1970s–early 1980s
Color: Teal with purple, lavender & white floral print
Fabric: 100% Cotton
Label size: 12 — fits like a modern US 6–8
Pit to pit: 18.5" (37" bust)
Shoulder to hem: 44" (midi length)
Scalloped ruffled sweetheart neckline
Built-in molded bra cups with adjustable band
Elasticized waist, self-tie sash belt
Care: Machine wash warm, tumble dry, cool iron
Condition: Very good vintage. No stains, no tears, no odor. Note: The elastic in the built-in bra band has lost its stretch with age. The band and cups are fully intact and a simple elastic replacement will restore full function.
Malia of Honolulu operated from around 1960 through the late 1980s, producing well-made, sophisticated cotton dresses that were explicitly designed to be worn long after a trip to Hawaii was over. Their pieces are increasingly sought after by vintage collectors who recognize the quality construction and distinctive print sensibility. This teal colorway and large-scale floral motif are characteristic of their late 1970s to early 1980s output.
Styling notes: Wear with flat sandals and a sun hat for a garden party, or dress up with block heeled mules and simple gold jewelry for a summer evening out.
