This framed print features the famous masterpiece "Two Sisters (On the Terrace)", painted in 1881 by the French Impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Renoir painted this piece at the Maison Fournaise, a popular restaurant located on an island in the Seine River in Chatou, a suburb of Paris. This is the exact same balcony setting he used for his iconic painting "Luncheon of the Boating Party."
Despite the given title, the young woman and the child depicted in the image were not actually related. Renoir hired unrelated models for the session; the older woman was a local actress named Jeanne Darlot, while the identity of the little girl remains a mystery. The original, life-sized oil painting resides in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
This vintage print has been newly framed in a sleek black frame with a crisp white mat for an elevated gallery-style presentation that works beautifully in French country, transitional, minimalist, and classic interiors.
Part of a curated collection of coordinating framed impressionist prints inspired by the rivers, gardens, and landscapes of late 19th-century France.
